Hello, Spring 2013!

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year. Personally, my new year is starting out great. Last week, I started classes again and it feels great to be back at work. I am excited about the opportunities this semester will bring, as it always feels good to have a fresh start.

One of the best things about school, this time around, is the new no smoking rule on campus. It went into effect Jan. 1 and bans any sort of smoking on campus. While I never noticed the smoking before, I find myself breathing a little easier on my way to class.

This semester’s goals include studying hard (as always) and visiting the Rec. Center more than once a week! Usually, I jog around a beautiful, small lake near my apartment. However, this semester I’m going to start lifting weights! The Rec. Center has excellent equipment and trainers there to help me if I need it.

I am looking forward to sharing interesting news with you about my experiences on campus this semester, so stay tuned!

UNT’s Murphy Center awards $40,000 to student entrepreneurs

The University of North Texas Murphy Center for Entrepreneurship, housed in UNT’s College of Business, awarded $40,000 in prizes to student winners of the center’s New Venture Creation Contest Nov. 9 (Friday).

The annual contest simulates the real-world process of entrepreneurs soliciting start-up funds from early-stage investors and venture capital firms. Each year student groups submit business plans for consideration, and winners are announced at the Murphy Center’s Leadership Luncheon.

The 2012 winners include Avant Solutions, LLC, ($20,000), which offers advertising, marketing and small business solutions; Click Clack ($10,000), a short films distribution business which aims to gather short films from around the world and organize them into DVD collections; Growin Green EcoFarm ($5,000), a start-up venture providing the Weatherford, Texas, area with high-quality, sustainable vegetables, fish and compost through the use of aquaponics.

Recently, Rand McNally and USA Today voted Denton the Best Small Town in America! The University of North Texas, located in Denton, is proud of this achievement! We have a diverse arts and live music scene and have even been voted the friendliest town, the most fun town, and  the fourth-best town for food!

Celebrating the Republic of Turkey at UNT-International

On Friday, November 2nd UNT-International hosted a Turkish culture and music celebration in our Global Grounds Cafe. Many students and staff come out and learned about Turkish culture including food, language, geography, and music! We’re proud to celebrate our diversity!
